The Academy Awards is this Sunday, February 26th at 5:30 PST. As always, the night will be filled with celebrities dressed to perfection and hitting the red carpet. All will be holding their breaths in the hopes to win an Oscar. Which films will win this year? La La Land perhaps? Here are some of the most talked about Oscar nominated films and where you can watch them to ready for the Academy Awards.

La La Land

La La Land is the hit movie of the year! It’s highly acclaimed and is a shoe-in to win many Oscar awards this year. This movie is an original musical film about a Jazz Pianist (Ryan Gosling) who falls in love aspiring actress (Emma Stone). Other cast members include John Legend, J.K. Simmons, and Rosemarie DeWitt. For this year’s Academy Awards, the film is nominated for the following: Best Picture, Directing (Damien Chazelle), Actress in a Leading Role (Emma Stone), Music (Original Score), Actor in Leading Role (Ryan Gosling) and many more, for a total of 12 nominations! This movie is unlike any movie seen before! If you have not seen La La Land yet, you can still see it theaters before Sunday!

Manchester By The Sea

Manchester By The Sea is one of the most touching films of the year. In the movie, Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) has to care for his nephew Patrick, after his father dies. This movie has been nominated this year for 6 awards including Actor in a Leading Role (Casey Affleck), Actor in a Supporting Role (Lucas Hedges), and Actress in a Supporting Role (Michelle Williams) The movie came out in December of 2016. Some movie theaters are still airing this movie or you can purchase it on Amazon Video, Google Play, Vudu, iTunes or YouTube. Surprisingly, this movie was created by Amazon Studios! This is truly a touching and wonderful movie to watch.


This Oscar nominated movies stars the amazing Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Based in the 1950s, this movie follows a working-class father who is trying to come to terms with his life while raising his family. This movie is based on the play “Fences”, which was on Broadway in 1987 and 2010. The 1987 production starred James Earl Jones, and the 2010 production starred Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. No wonder they were in the film! This film is nominated for 4 categories including Actor in a Leading Role (Denzel Washington), Best Picture, and Actress in a Supporting Role (Viola Davis). This movie is still in theaters or can be purchased to watch on Vudu.

Hidden Figures

This movie is based on the novel, Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race, which is a true story. This is a great movie for the whole family! The movie is about African-American Mathematicians, Katherine, Dorothy, and Mary, who defied odds and helped during the early years of NASA. This movie has an all-star cast including Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, and Jim Parsons. This movie has been nominated for three awards including Best Picture, Actress in a Supporting Role (Octavia Spencer), and Writing (Adapted Screenplay). This movie can only be seen in theaters since it was released on January 6th, 2017.
